Kodiak, Alaska-Martin

Day 10 - Sunday - June 6, 2010 - Alaska Airlines Flight – Kodiak, Alaska to Anchorage to Seattle to Denver, Colorado and Home

Gennie woke up at 5:00 to look at the weather forecast and to check the Alaska Airlines status for our flights home today. It was raining but as we left the hotel we saw a few rays of sunshine over the horizon.

The Best Western Shuttle took us directly to the airport at 6:15, a short ride, only 10 minutes away. We were the second passengers to arrive for our 8:00 flight.

Gennie had checked us in online and printed our boarding passes so the only thing left was to check our bags with the gate agents. On this flight we were allowed 50 pounds each, my bag weighed 48.2 pounds and Gennie’s was 49.7.

Talk about balanced packing. We laughed and the gate agent told us that dirty clothes always weigh more on the way home!

We had a lively conversation with Norm Wooten, the president of the Kodiak School Board and an educational consultant. He also introduced us to Alaska State Senate President Gary Stevens, a State Senator from Kodiak and organizer of the Alaska Senate Bipartisan Working Group.

Our 48 minutes combi flight to Anchorage left right on time and we arrived on schedule at 8:50 at C4. The Seattle departure was boarding on C2, so we literally waked from one plane to the next.

Gennie made a quick call to our son Eduardo to let him know we had made it out of Kodiak and were on our way. The flight attendants quickly closed the doors and buttoned down the plane for our 1448 mile flight to Seattle.

The route took us over incredibly clear views of the Chugach Mountain Range. During most of the journey we could see the rugged coastline and the snow capped mountains of the Pacific Northwest.

We had about two hours in Seattle to check our mail and to board the last flight of the trip to Denver. Coming into Denver over the Rockies was pretty bumpy but before we knew it we were safe on the ground.

After a short wait we got our bags, found the airport shuttle to Mt. Elbert Parking Lot, and were on our way south toward Monument. We stopped at Safeway for a few groceries and got home just about 9:00.

Home always looks great and the cats were happy to see us. We got a bite to eat, did a load of laundry and called it a day – a long day at that!

A CD OF EACH TRIP IS AVAILABLE.

These CDs are compilations of slide presentations of each day (pictures of the events during the day) accompanied by music reflective of the nation and day.

On most CDs there are presentations on the people of the country, people traveling with the group, flowers, and panoramas.

On more recent trips, short videos have been included on the web pages and these videos are also available in the CD.

The CD is available for $20 US. Shipping and handling is included for US addresses. Slightly higher for overseas shipping.

As it is an 8:13 presentation, give yourself time to see it in its entirety.
