Day 06 – Thursday, April 29, 2010 – Frederikssund, Denmark
The fjord was very foggy when we woke up but it was not long before the weather began to warm up and it was sunny. We had a special breakfast of Danish pastries, but here in Denmark I guess they are all Danish Pastries!
The Poulsen girls stayed home from school today so they got to sleep in a little. Ulla was kind enough to do laundry for us so we will begin our Trafalgar Tour with fresh clothes.
We used the morning to repack our bags. About 1:00 Gennie and the Poulsens went in to Frederikssund to their new shopping center and the pedestrian mall.
We had a late lunch at 3:00 sitting outside and enjoying the spring weather. The girls entertained us with a few of their gymnastic tricks. It is amazing what youthful bodies can do!
Cecilie and Maria left for gymnastics practice at their neighborhood elementary school, just a few blocks away. Even though parents and visitors are not allowed to watch practice normally, Jesper asked for special permission for the American Friends to come and visit.
The teams were practicing their floor routines as well as their jumps and tumbling exercises when we came in. We were able to watch them for about 50 minutes, took a few photos and a video, and then we thanked the coach for his tolerance.
We arrived back at the house about 8:15 and prepared dinner for the hungry young ladies who arrived a few minutes later. Tomorrow is Great Prayer Day in Denmark, a national holiday.
The tradition is to have a special evening meal before the holiday. Today we bought special wheat buns at the bakery. Varme Hveder or Huede Knopper, meaning hot wheat buns, were featured everywhere today.
Tonight Ulla toasted them in the oven and we ate them with butter, cheese, and jam. I could really get used to these Danish traditions!
Because we have such an early morning flight, we had a little ice cream from Hansen’s Dairy for dessert and then said good night to our friends.
Accommodations: Poulsen Mansion
Day 13 - Saturday, April 22, 2022 - Depart for U.S.
The hotel prepared a box breakfast for us as we had to be in the lobby way before the breakfast room was open.
Last night we found out that our departure flight back to...
