Day 03 - Sunday, April 26, 2010 – Billund, Denmark Legoland - Frederikssund, Denmark
We began our morning at 8:00 after a good night’s sleep. We had breakfast with the Poulsen Family at 9:00 and were ready to check out by 10. When I went out to test the weather it was raining, with a temperature of 53º and the humidity of 85%.
The Poulsen girls, Cecilie and Maria were in a gymnastics competition in the west of Denmark and were here for the weekend. Jespser had suggested we arrive on Sunday, fly into Billund instead of Copenhagen, and then meet them and then go on to Legoland. What a great suggestion!
We got to the park at 10:00 just as it was opening. There were very few people and no lines for the rides, in fact as Jesper said, “The rides waited for us instead of the way it usually is!”
All of us kept saying that our son Eduardo would have loved it! There were the original little villages from all over Denmark, Europe, and famous buildings of the world all replicated exactly as they are laid out to scale.
In the new area we visited all of the different Lego themes; pirates, trains, Adventure Land, castles, etc, etc.... There were rides to go along with the Lego themes as you would expect. Our late lunch was at the Family Pizza and Pasta Shop inside the park. Then off to the Shops! While Gennie looked at all of the products and saw hundreds of things she could have bought, I talked to the salesman.
I told him about our son’s Millennium Falcon and he asked how much it cost in the USA. When I told him, he said they do not sell them anymore, but they cost $900 in Denmark at Legoland and then 25% for the VAT, Value Added Tax. Needless to say, we did not make many pricey purchases!
Legoland was almost empty when we left at 5:00.
We had walked/ridden 6.3 miles in the 6 hours we visited the park. We had a extraordinary day at the park, although it rained most of the day.
The journey to Frederikssund was about 2.5 hours so we were able to see much of the rural areas of Denmark. It rained most of the way and as we got closer to the city we encountered a little traffic with everyone going home from work. We made a quick stop at the grocery store and bought fresh bread, cheese, veggies, and meat for sandwiches for dinner.
The girls have school tomorrow and had to get their home work done. While Jesper caught up on his IBM mail, Ulla did a little work for the bank, Gennie started the journal, I sorted photos and looked at the GPS to see where we had walked today.
What a delightful day! Many wonderful new experiences with old friends!
