Castle Poulsen Denmark

Day 02 - Sunday, April 25, 2010 - Frankfurt, Germany to Billund, Denmark

The arrival time for our Denver Frankfurt flight was 11:45 but we had to park on the outer tarmac, quite a distance from the terminal. The shuttle bus took us to the terminal and from there we went through the passport control entering the European Union.

It looks like Frankfurt is back to its busy but normal hub. There were no long lines and people seemed their usual calm selves.

I found an ATM and got a few Euros. We went through security again to make our connecting flight and had no problems.

There is a long walk to the A Concourse and the Lufthansa Lounge. The hike felt very good for us after sitting all night.

We were able to use the computer just to check our mail and let the Poulsens know we had made it this far and write a quick note home to Eduardo.

The lounge was not very busy on a Sunday morning so we found a quiet corner and rested until it was close to our flight time. I took a few photos and Gennie started to write the journals and got a little work done to wrap up her UOP classes.

The flight to Denmark was called at 4:00 so we made our way to Gate 15A – about a mile from the Lufthansa Lounge – Frankfurt is a huge airport and we got our exercise going on these treks from one end of the concourse to another.

Once again a shuttle took us to the tarmac and we boarded our short hop to Billund. As we rose over the German and then Danish country sides we saw new green fields and trees just beginning to blossom.

In just an hour and 15 minutes we began our descent into the rural area of Billund, the birthplace of Legos. The main attraction here is Lego Land Park which we could see as we approached the runway.

The airport was small; Gennie counted only 10 gates, but the service was very good. Our bags came in just a few minutes and Jesper, Ulla, Cecilie, and Maria were waiting for us as we entered the baggage area.

There was no immigration, no passport control, and no customs so we walked out into the clear crisp Danish air. After a 5 minute walk we reached our hotel, the Zleep Hotel, a very clean modern retreat for tourists.

We took a shower, did a little unpacking and then met the Poulsens for dinner. The six of us piled into Jesper’s Saab sedan to find a pizza, everyone’s favorite!

It was about 10 when we closed down the restaurant and returned to the hotel. We talked for another hour and then said goodnight.

Gennie finished the day’s journal as I checked out our photos for the day. We had a long two days with little sleep, but we are so happy to have arrived in spite of volcanoes and snow storms.

Accommodations: Zleep Hotel Billund- - - Meal: B, L, D
