Monday, September 24, 2007 - Austin, TX to Dumas, TX
With our delightful weekend over, we left Austin at 7:15. The sun was just starting to come up but already the traffic was heavy. We had no trouble getting back on US-183 going north, but those who were trying to get into the Capital were already jamming the highways!
We retraced our path along US-183 and then to Texas #36. We took a cut off to I-20 which was a bit faster than the back roads. At 11:00 we stopped at Clyde near Abilene for lunch.
Staying on the Interstate is faster but very boring, so we went for about 60 miles and then when we reached US-84, we took the 4 lane diagonal to Lubbock. It was an excellent road, and we got to see many small towns, oil fields, and acres of cotton, corn, and sorghum. We stopped for a few photos but generally kept on a'truckin!
We made great time, stopping only for gas and restroom breaks so by 5:00 we had arrived at Dumas and our hotel at the Days Inn! We were pleasantly surprised at the price, the clean rooms, and over all accommodations.
Our first adventure in Dumas was to find a car wash! Right up the street from our hotel we found a great one and really worked to get the Texas bugs off of the front of the car! I think even the bugs are bigger here in Texas.
After washing the car and getting gas, we got a light dinner and came back to the hotel to work on L-P soccer and Gen went to e-class. How nice to be able to e-work while on the road!
After our late evenings in Austin, it was early to bed so we could hit the road again early tomorrow morning.
