Austin City Limits 2

Sunday, September 23, 2007 - Austin, TX

We used the morning to get organized for the day, write the journal from yesterday, and then Eduardo came to pick us up at 10:00. We had brunch with Sonia and Eduardo at a fantastic patio Mexican Restaurant not far from Eduardo's apartment called El Chile Café Y Cantina.

We had a leisurely meal and then at 1:00 we went to the Texas Museum of Art. Little did we know that all of the state's museums were free today and the Art Museum had a fantastic program for children and their families! The museum itself was well laid out and we enjoyed looking at the Masters, Western Art, as well as Contemporary and Modern pieces.

Sonia left us to study and Eduardo took us to a Wings Bar called Pluckers where we had great seat to watch the Broncos lose to Jacksonville. We thought they could make another last minute come-back but it was not to be. However, the wings were great and we enjoyed our time together.

At 7:00 we met Sonia at the Congress Street Bridge where we waited with hundreds of other bat enthusiasts to watch the nightly migration of the Mexican Free-Tailed Bats who live under the Congress Street Bridge. This is the largest urban bat colony in the world. Very impressive, but it got totally dark before the bats actually came out so we did not get great photos!

And a trip to Austin would not be complete without a stop to Amy's Ice Cream! We stopped on our way back from watching the bats and enjoyed our final time together with ice cream - a perfect ending to a great weekend!

After Eduardo took us back to our hotel we started packing and getting ready for our trip back to Colorado. Eduardo called to tell us that he had been receiving news from The Denver Underground Film Festival where he had entered his film AEON. Preliminary reports indicate that he won "Best in Festival"! How proud and pleased we are that all of his efforts and hard work were recognized!
