Austin City Limits 2

Saturday, September 22, 2007 - Austin, TX

We began our day with a light breakfast at our hotel at 8:00. Eduardo met us and we began our day with a trek to an area called Mount Bonnell overlooking Lake Austin on the Texas Colorado River to get a beautiful glimpse of the river, the capital city, and the extravagant homes along both banks.

Sonia and her dog Lucy joined us and Lucy immediately won the hearts of all of the hikers she met! She is a year old pit bull mix which Sonia and her family have adopted as their own. After spending an hour on the limestone cliffs, we went to the Barton Creek Greenbelt, a hiking trail and recreation area. We took Lucy for her first (nervous) swim in the cool waters and enjoyed a few hours together.

Because Sonia had a commitment in the afternoon, she and Lucy went home and the three of us had lunch at a sub shop and then set off for the afternoon. We were planning to go to the History Museum, but in a last minute change of plans we ended up at Fry's Electronic Store - the most extensive "Big Boy Toy Store" I have ever seen!

We spent 2 fast hours exploring the computers, cameras, and entertainment aisles; so many gadgets and not enough time. Next time we come to Austin I will bring a big truck to be able to take advantage of the bargains in this huge complex!

Our next stop was shopping for a few things for Eduardo's new apartment, and then back to our hotel to shower. We returned to the apartment where I assembled a new towel rack and Gennie ironed a few things while Eduardo got ready.

We drove to Sonia's parent's home in a beautiful area of South Austin to pick up Sonia. We drove quite a ways west of the city to the Mandola Winery and the Tratorria Lisina where we met her parents, Celia and Ramiro and one of her brothers Geraldo. Although we had a long wait in this new and very popular restaurant the time went quickly as we got to know each other over a glass of wine.

We had dinner in a typical Italian villa styled with a huge dining room. Unfortunately for Eduardo (Eduardo) and Sonia, we told childhood stories of their antics from the past! At 10:30 we left the winery and found our way back to the hotel.
