Day 6 - Thursday, September 13, 2001
We got up at 6:15 and went down for breakfast at 7:00 PM. Same continental breakfast - rolls, coffee, cereal, hard boiled eggs, etc.
We left Venice at 8 AM and went down the interior highway until we got to a rest area 2 hours down the road. Stopped at a rest area that had all the benefits - restaurant, gas station, play area, etc. We proceeded to Florence and it is a great city. VERY ARTISTIC.
The bus dropped the group close to city center as they do not allow buses into town during the day. Buses have to buy a permit, even to enter the city.
The Plaza had several restaurants and we had a pizza and coke and it cost us 28 dollars. Lots of things in Europe are expensive. We had 15 minutes after lunch so we checked the email at an internet site.
We then went on a tour of the city center. Church first, burial of all the people from Florence - Michelangelo, Dante, Machiavelli, Rossinni, DaVinci, and Galileo.
Then went to see the Museum for Michelangelo and his statue of David. IMPRESSIVE. We went around the city a bit, got on the bus at 4:30 and went to the city overlook for a group picture. We went back to the Antony Hotel and it is neat but our room was a little dirty as the floor had not been swept.
In the evening we went to the BORGIA PALACE. It is a recreation of the old days - early 1800's with the music, dancing, games and the food of the times.
Several members of our group were asked to participate and until the end it went fine. A member of another group tried to hinder/interfere with Joe Knight and we could have had a problem. Fortunately, Joe, who is a black belt in Karate, he kept his cool. We did have a nice meal, like the one yesterday but better. Lots of CHIANTI wine - red and good.
Day 13 - Saturday, April 22, 2022 - Depart for U.S.
The hotel prepared a box breakfast for us as we had to be in the lobby way before the breakfast room was open.
Last night we found out that our departure flight back to...
