Day 08 - Thursday, July 24, 2014 - Check Out of Hotel; Meet the Poulsens; Visit More of Oslo; Holmenkollen Ski Jump; Board the Pearl of the Seas DFDS; Cross the Skagerrak Sea
The wake up call for the group was at 6:00 but we ignored it and slept until 7:00 as we only booked the Norway portion of the Scandinavian Adventure. We had breakfast at the hotel and then stored our bags and went into the lobby to wait for the Poulsens, our Danish family.
Jesper, Ulla, and their two daughters arrived about 10:30 after they had taken the overnight DFDS ferry from near their home in Copenhagen. After briefly catching up with them we started our day trip of the city, as the girls had never been to Oslo.
Our first destination was to the famous Holmenkollen Ski Jump on the outskirts of the city. Jesper bought tickets for the metro that took us relatively close and then we hiked the last mile to the top of the hill.
The entryway to the jump looped through an excellent museum dealing with skiing and jumping. We saw old movies of young, young children skiing before they could walk. No wonder Norway does so well in the Nordic sports in the Winter Olympics!
The ski jump was functioning as a zip line during the summer, but we were able to get the idea of how high it was by riding the lift up to the top. After enough time to take a gazillion photos of the city and harbor below, we rode down the lift and walked back to the Metro.
We rode all the way to the National Theater and then walked to our hotel to pick up our bags we had put in storage. Jesper called for a large taxi so we could get to the port where we boarded our DFDS ship (Danish) called Pearl of the Seas.
Vic had purchased our tickets online so checking went very quickly. After finding our cabin on Deck 10, we went out to the upper deck to have a drink with the Poulsens.
As we pulled away from the dock, we waved goodbye to Norway and began our next adventure in Denmark when the ship docks at 10:00 AM tomorrow in Copenhagen.
Accommodations: Pearl of the Seas - - - Meal: B & D
I suspect that by today you both have that glacial-gleam in your eyes, the look of ancient Viking's. I agree Poulsens are beautiful family.
Post a Comment! What an interesting day and so glad you met the Poulsens. What a great pic and a handsome family. Vic you are such a happy gent and a card!
Day 13 - Saturday, April 22, 2022 - Depart for U.S.
The hotel prepared a box breakfast for us as we had to be in the lobby way before the breakfast room was open.
Last night we found out that our departure flight back to...
