Day 11 - October 22, 2011 - Saturday - Albany, NY; Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Homecoming Game, East Campus Athletic Village

Today was a family day for us. We went to the 76 Diner in Latham for breakfast and then took a short drive over the Hudson River to visit the RPI campus for a memory tour.

Rensselaer was founded in 1824 by Stephen Van Rensselaer for the "application of science to the common purposes of life", and is the oldest technological university in the English-speaking world.

We followed Eduardo as we retraced his steps at Rensselaer from the Fall of 2000 – to the Winter of 2003 when he graduated from the Lally School of Management & Technology in December.

We started at Cary Hall, his dorm, then to the Mueller Recreation Center where he worked for two years, and to his classrooms. So many things have stayed exactly the same until we got to ’86 Field where he played football.

The field is now an open green and the ‘87 Gym is now used mainly for storage. We walked through these hallowed halls and remembered the great days of watching him kick on this football field.

We walked through the book store and then back to the new East Campus Athletic Village where the new stadium was built and then was opened in 2009. We were all impressed with the new facility.

We parked in the E Lot where the Football Alumni had their tailgate parties and Eduardo saw a few of his former teammates and coaches.

It has been 8 years since we have been back and with the retirement of their coach, Joe King there are not a lot of ties with former players to the new staff and program.

We had cool weather for the game but no rain. The Engineers beat St. Lawrence University 14 - 7. We had several pictures taken of the three of us just like old times!

After the game we went to the Hilton Inn and the Recovery Sports Grill to see Eduardo’s former uniform #14 that hangs in the pub.

We came back to the hotel and then at 6:00 we went out for dinner at Ruby Tuesdays. The alarm will go off early in the morning as Eduardo has to be at the train station at 7:00 and we will pack up for our flight back to Colorado at noon.

GarciaTrips will conclude our Fall East Coast and Canadian Atlantic Provinces Journey when we return home on Sunday evening.

Accommodations: Comfort Inn and Suites, Latham, NY
