Day 01 - October 12, 2011 - Wednesday - Delta Flight Detroit-Albany

We woke up to a beautiful Indian Summer day on Palmer Divide. The next week is supposed to be sunny and dry and it was 38° this morning. It made us wonder why we were leaving Colorful Colorado.

Driving out of the house at 8:00, we were right on our schedule as we had completed most of our travel routine the night before. Tim will come after school to stay with the house and Buddha. How lucky we are to have such a responsible person to look after things while we travel!

Traffic was not bad until we reached Happy Canyon and then we got a bit bogged down with the people going to work on this Wednesday morning. Using our Easy-Pass, we skirted Denver and the traffic and parked in the Pikes Peak Lot. The cost is now $7 per day.

After checking our bags all the way to Albany, we looked down into the Security Pit and it was really congested. Gennie had printed the boarding passes before leaving home and had selected our seats early so we had lots of leg room in 10 B and C.

We opted to walk to Terminal A where the lines were still long going through security. One of the TSA attendants said most were the left over Columbus Day Holiday travelers.

Gennie breezed right on through but I was stopped for a full body scan – lucky me! By the time we reached C-38, our flight to Detroit was starting to board.

The flight attendant gave us the Exit Row Tutorial and we pulled away from the jet way right on time at 11:15. Gennie started the log for our GarciaTrips website and I started reading the manual for my new toy, a Cannon EOS 60D.

The pilot got us to Detroit, MI a bit early and we found our connecting gate to Albany and had a short wait. Gennie tried to get into her classes as she is teaching two Online classes – a working vacation!

The flight to Albany, NY boarded at 5:00 pm. Our CRJ200, a little commuter jet, took 50 of us, (a full flight) to the Capital Region landing at 6:50. Our bags were the first to arrive so I picked them up while Gennie stood in line at the Avis counter.

It was almost 7:30 we got the keys to our Mitsubishi Galant. Our hotel, the Quality Inn, was close by and we were all checked in by 8:00. We walked to Ruby Tuesday’s for a light dinner and then went back to the room so we could begin the journal and Gennie could work on her classes.

Accommodations: Quality Inn and Suites, Latham, NY
