Mayan Riviera

February 11, 2007 - Sunday - Iberostar Paraiso del Mar

We woke up to another sunny day in Paradise but found we had no water this morning! We took advantage of the small stream from the tap - enough to freshen up and shave! Back to the days of 1976 when we were here in Cancun - it was a brand new small resort town with intermittent water and frequent power outages!

Our walk to breakfast was under the umbrella, enough rain clean off the gardens but by the time we finished, the sun was out once more. We came back to our room to catch up on the journal from our excursion yesterday and sort through the day's photos for GarciaTrips.com.

We had a leisurely walk over to the Convention Center and found our password from Day 2 was still current! We were the only ones using the system, and had no difficulty updating our travel website. There were several messages from friends and Gennie caught up with one of her Directed Study students from UOP. Isn't technology wonderful?

I have picked up a cold so we walked over to the new shopping center and found a pharmacy that was open and an efficient young pharmacist who helped me by recommending a medication. The access to prescription drugs is very easy here in Mexico and the cost is very reasonable. Of course, her recommendation was to see a doctor tomorrow if I did not feel better!

At about 11:00 we walked back to our room changed and walked down to the beach. By this time all of the palapas or thatched umbrellas were taken so we went back to the pool area and found several seats in a shady area. We read and watched the other guests also enjoying the clear day. Although it is over 90, our chairs caught a nice breeze and we seemed much cooler.

Even though we are not used to eating three meals a day, the smells from the lunch buffet tempted us to go over to the patio and get a salad at about 1:30. The fruits and vegetables here are very fresh and exceptionally good - hard to resist!

The sky began to cloud up and we started to hear thunder at about 4:30 so we came back to our room for a shower and to get ready for an early dinner. Gennie took a shower and mentioned there was very little water pressure. By the time it was my turn there was no water again. Just my luck, but being resourceful, I managed to be presentable for dinner!

We had reservations at the Japanese Restaurant at 7:00. The downpour and high winds began at 5:30 PM so we braved the torrential rain, walked through adjoining complexes and when we had to be out in the elements we had an umbrella and a raincoat that we always carry with us in our travels.

We went over to the main lounge and bar to have a drink before we made our way to Hashiru for our specialty dinner. As in our previous trip, this is the best restaurant in the complex. Sitting with others, conversing, observing the chef preparing our dinner is a real pleasure. We got home at 9:35, finished our journal and pictures.
