Mayan Riviera

February 9, 2007 - Friday - Iberostar Paraiso del Mar

There was another hard rain in the early morning hours, the sidewalks were flooded when we went to breakfast at 8:30. We met Ulla and Jesper and the girls in the main dining room and enjoyed the fresh fruit and all of the different varieties of breakfast fare.

We had brought the laptop so when we were finished with breakfast we hiked over to the business center only about ½ mile away from our section of the hotel. It was quite a complex, mostly meeting rooms and a large banquet area.

I was able to get a password and log on for a 24hour connection. The internet was relatively slow but we were able to send the journals from the first two days of our journey without any problems.

While we were there we met our new friend, Ricardo, one of the bellmen, who has been so nice to us. He was there at the Convention Center for a meeting and a intro tour of the new hotel complex we saw from the beach yesterday. It will open in March and he will transfer and be in charge of a group at that complex.

After a short walk back to the room, we lathered up with lots of suntan lotion, changed into our swim suits and headed off to the pool area. Jesper and Ulla had a place all saved for us so we relaxed, read, and watched the little girls enjoying the sun and the water.

We had a very light salad at 2:30 at one of the patios and then Vic had an introductory diving lesson back at the pool. All went well, it was another experience, and then we played in the pool until it was time to go back to the room.

When we arrived we found that our chambermaid Beti had again decorated our room with fresh flowers and today an adorable rabbit designed from towels.

We worked on the pictures, typed the journal, and then showered in preparation for dinner. Jesper came by the room to download his pictures on to the computer and then we went to the mail lobby for our nightly libation.

We had dinner at the main dining room with their fabulous buffet. Tonight was Mexican night and we were met as we entered the dining room with margaritas. The buffet was special in that they would make tacos and other dishes to our desire as well as a variety of traditional Mexican dishes. We finished the evening with Mexican coffee at 9 PM!

We walked over to the convention center where we uploaded this journal.

Temperature today was about 85 with 100% humidity when it was not raining. Partly cloudy.
