Day 05 - July 10, 2011 - Sunday - Drive to Jackson Hole, WY – Yellowstone National Park – Grand Tetons National Park
Our Guest Author for today is Cecilie Poulsen, age 15 from Frederikssund, Denmark.
We met at 8:34 am and drove towards Yellowstone National Park. On the way to Yellowstone, we drove through Buffalo Bill State Park. The only animal we saw in the park was a herd of white pelicans. We stopped at Holy City (rock formation) and took some pictures.
We drove for a short while, and then we saw a lot of cars parked at the side of the road. We stopped and saw a baby moose.
We entered Yellowstone around 9:30 am. The first animals we saw were 8 big horn sheep; they were just about to cross the road. Right after we saw buffaloes and their babies. We also stopped to see a mud volcano and it smelled awful.
Next stop was at the waterfall called Brink of Upper Falls; it was amazing to see all the water coming down.
At 12:30 pm we stopped for lunch, but we shared it with a lot of mosquitoes, so it was just a short stop.
After lunch we went to a volcano area. We could smell sulphur and it smells like rotten eggs.
Once again we saw a lot of cars that had stopped and this time it was a bear.
It was late so we decided to wait and see the hot springs tomorrow. On the way out of the Yellowstone we saw a big elk with large antlers.
On the way to Jackson we drove by the Tetons which had lots of snow on the top and there was also snow on the side of the road.
We arrived in Jackson at 19:00 pm and we relaxed for an hour and then went out for dinner at a very nice Thai restaurant.
