Day 18 – Sunday, May 16, 2010 – Flight Vienna, Austria to Frankfurt, Germany to Denver, USA
The last leg of our Eastern European journey brought us home to Colorado. Gennie had been up since 5:30 checking the internet for any last minute glitches in our flight schedule.
We gathered at the hotel lobby in Vienna one more time at 8:30. Eva was there along with Paul to take us to the airport and to see us off.
Our one hour Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt was scheduled at 10:55 and took off almost on time. Everyone was relived to get off the ground as the Icelandic volcano was acting up again so many British flights had been canceled or delayed.
Once we arrived in Frankfurt we found ourselves at the exact opposite end of the airport, having to dash from Terminal A to C. The lines through Passport Control were long and slow but we made it on time and then discovered that Lufthansa has new boarding procedures.
We were able to go into the 1st Class & Business Boarding Lounge which is on another upper level. The set up is very accommodating and gives one a sense of peace in the fast paced airport environment.
The flight to Denver was a 10.5 hour trip, but we relaxed, read, and had fantastic flight attendants who were very gracious. The time seemed to go very quickly.
As we passed north of Iceland, the skies were very gray below us but as soon as we were over Greenland, the clouds opened up and we had clear views of the mountainous ice and snow covered terrain.
We landed in Denver about 4:00, a few minutes ahead of schedule. After collecting the luggage and then retrieving our car from the Pikes Peak Parking area, we were on our way home.
We stopped at Chipotle for a salad and then made a quick stop at Safeway to get a few essentials for tomorrow. Our Siamese cats, Buddha and Kwai were happy to see us and we were definitely glad to be home safe and sound, already thinking about our plans for our Alaska Adventure in two weeks.

A CD OF EACH TRIP IS AVAILABLE.
These CDs are compilations of slide presentations of each day (pictures of the events during the day) accompanied by music reflective of the nation and day.
On most CDs there are presentations on the people of the country, people traveling with the group, flowers, and panoramas.
On more recent trips, short videos have been included on the web pages and these videos are also available in the CD.
The CD is available for $20 US. Shipping and handling is included for US addresses. Slightly higher for overseas shipping.
