DAY 14 - May 18, 2005 - Denmark
We were awake by 7:30 as many of our group had gone out early to catch their flights. We showered, packed our bags and then went out to visit with some of our group who were having coffee and pastries in the sunshine. We bid the Rome five good-bye, seeing Giulia and wishing her the best. We walked up the hill to the main dining room where we had a typical continental breakfast. We returned to our room in a slight drizzle and awaited our transfer to the Rome Airport. At 9 AM the driver arrived in a Mercedes van and picked us up along with Sy and Sharon.
In half an hour we arrived and were taken to Terminal C. We had to pay the driver 30 Euros as we were told last night OAT does not pay for the transfer if one does a breakaway. INTERESTING! At information we found that SAS check-in was at Terminal B so we took a short walk there. We had to wait until 11 AM to check-in but that was quick and painless. Once done, we walked a short distance to security, a very minimal check. Our gate was B3 so it was quite easy. I was able to take out the computer and started to work on pictures and other aspects of the Italy trips while we waited for our boarding at 12:50.
The flight was very uneventful except that SAS does not serve any food or beverages on the 2:30 hour flight unless one purchases it. But there was extra leg room and the people in front of us did not lean back their seats. We arrived in Copenhagen at 4:10 and it was a cool afternoon with a little sunshine. When we got to the baggage claim we saw Ulla, Jesper, Cecilie and Maria waving at us from a viewing room. The girls carried Danish and American flags to greet us. After we got our bags we went through the customs area where there was no one checking. How easy!
We were greeted by the Poulsens and then we were taken to their vehicles to the trip to their very nice home in Frederikssund, about 45 minutes northwest of the capital. It was so nice to be with them and share the good times and see the area around their city and fjord. We gave the Poulsens their gifts and they in turn gave Gennie a Danish flag charm for her Italian bracelet.
This will be the last Journal entry for the OAT Tuscan Hill Towns.
