Day 5 - Tuesday, May 18, 2004
We got up a little later than usual, about 7:30, and worked around the room a bit. We did not want to go out too early to get breakfast as we wanted only two meals today. So we checked the email and the news, showered, dressed and then went out.
We started our walk about 8:30 or so and we went toward the bustling Waikiki "city" center. We crossed through the park (a military facility) across from our hotel and went toward the main street where ALL the rich stores are located. Wow!!!
We looked at many, stopped and window shopped, went into some, one in particular had a large seawater aquarium that was two stories high. We walked through some little street vendors and then went through the International Market.
At 10:30 we stopped at Perry's Smorgys and had a buffet breakfast. It was pretty good but the air was not moving within the restaurant. It was only $5.99/person so it was a good deal for Hawaii.
It was enough to carry us until dinner tonight. We ended up buying nothing and then walked back by the beach to the hotel.
Once back in the hotel we noticed that our room still had not been made up. We decided to sit out on our deck that faced Waikiki Beach. With the overhang of the room above us we had shade for most of the day. We read our books, enjoyed watching the people on the beach and in the water and had a very lazy morning.
About 1 PM we went to the beach and into the ocean. The temperature is about 73 degrees - not bad. We got about an hour of sun on the sand below our room, using a straw mat and our towels and then went back to the room to get in the shade.
Here in Oahu, and on the beaches (all are public), one has to rent an umbrella and recliner chairs. Total is about $25 per day. What a racket. Better in Mexico.
The pools (there are 4 for the complex) are much smaller than we are used to in Mexico and other resorts. We tried to get a chair but they were all taken. Prices are sky high at the hotel - so we do not eat there. An ice cream cone is $5.00 per scoop!
When we went back to the room and as the sun was shining on the south deck we moved over to the west one, little more shade and read there for a while.
We also watched a barge be placed in the lagoon with some fireworks launchers and on the far side a laser show tent. We were later to find out that these were there for a show to be presented to the AMWAY convention that was located in hotel. A very large group.
I checked the Lewis-Palmer girl’s soccer team result on the net - RockyPreps.com - and saw that LP lost to Mullen 2-0. Nice to have the broadband connection so we have the net and email on all the time.
About 5 PM we had showered and as we found another Thai restaurant (KEO's At Waikiki), we walked over to it. Much larger than the other but the food was not as good. We were disappointed with the flavor and the service. We decided that Singha was much better and we would go there tomorrow night before we fly out.
We walked around a little bit, seeing the stores under evening lights and then walked back to the Hilton. We went back to our room, checked our email again and there was a note from Eduardo with his impressions of the LP soccer game.
Day 13 - Saturday, April 22, 2022 - Depart for U.S.
The hotel prepared a box breakfast for us as we had to be in the lobby way before the breakfast room was open.
Last night we found out that our departure flight back to...
