Hawaii

Day 1 - Friday, May 14, 2004

We are in Hawaii, our 50th state. We had a 7 hour flight but very uneventful. Good service but very mediocre food.

We were greeted at the end of the jetway by a hostess who gave us a lei, hugged us and kissed our cheek. We were the only ones to get this. INTERESTING!

She took us to baggage, put them on a cart, took us to a shuttle bus and we were off to the Hilton Hawaiian Village. It was about 10 miles but because we came in on a Friday afternoon, took us 45 minutes.

We got to the hotel and had to walk about 150 yards to reception. This place is enormous. Six towers.

We checked in and the hostess told us we had been upgraded. We got a corner room, 5th floor that faces both beaches. We should be able to see the fireworks tonight from our balcony.

The hotel is like the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. Many things, shops, restaurants, etc. Lots to do, I guess. As we came in we looked for restaurants and there are many. Many malls also. We have a choice of high speed line. I will try it and see how it is. $9.95 per day.

It is overcast but hot and humid. Very much like Brasil. Even smells like it. We are on standard time so we are 4 hours behind Colorado. The gas prices are $2.19 per gallon and up. So much higher than the mainland.

As we walked to dinner, there was a car stopped by the hotel and he had two parrots, one on each backrest. Large one on the passenger head rest and the other on the driver. Different.

As we were sitting for dinner, a large truck with graphic pictures went by - AbortionNo.com. This would be a perfect place for S2000. Saw two silver at the Honda dealer. Saw over 50 350Z.

There are a lot of Hawaiian shirts for sale. People dress casually. Honolulu is a much taller city than Denver. Real Estate is expensive so the buildings go up and not out.

The Hilton is on 20 acres. 60 species of birds, including penguins. There are 20 restaurants and lounges. 439 palm trees.

As we were ready to go to sleep there was fireworks show right outside our window. Very nice
