DAY 13 - Tuesday, January 26, 2016 - Cruise the Drake Passage; See Sea Life; Lectures
We had another day sailing the Drake Passage. The seas were still rolling and the waves were crashing as the Corinthian sped through the water at 14 knots.
These two sea days were relaxing and because the seascapes do not change, we tried to share a few photos from our previous days on this adventure.
After breakfast we walked down to the bridge to get a look at the crew that was taking us safely back to Ushuaia. We were heading almost due north. The navigator showed us how he plotted the progress of the ship and read the GPS to keep us on course.
Our lunch was served at 12:30 and then at 2:00 we gathered for a meeting in the Lounge with all of the Expedition Crew and our four program leaders. The Expedition Staff reviewed the highlights of the journey and wished us safe travels home.
The Program Directors prepared a slide show of the photographs and video clips they have been taking as we traveled the Antarctic Peninsula. It was a fun review and all of the 100 passengers were included in the slide show.
As we sailed in the Beagle Channel the seas were calm and seeing land birds fishing was more and more common. The Black-browed Albatross and the Imperial Cormorants treated us to soaring flights very close to the ship.
We met with Seba at 5:00 to go over the logistics for tonight and our very early morning departure from the ship tomorrow. The Captain hosted a special Cocktail Reception at 6:30 and our Farewell Dinner was at 7:00 pm.
The hotel manager, Tomi asked us to sit at his table for dinner. Once again we had a lively conversation with five others. Getting to know people from the other 3 groups was a pleasure, although we really loved sitting and talking to those in our small group.
The highlight of dinner tonight was the dessert – we did not have Baked Alaska, but Baked Antarctica. This was another opportunity to see all of the galley staff, the housekeepers, and the wait staff, as they paraded before us. What a grand finale for our trip.
Tomorrow, the day will begin early with a 5:45 am wake up call and then we depart the ship at 7:00 for our flight to Buenos Aires, Atlanta, and then on to Denver. We will post the final episode of this GarciaTrips adventure in one or two days when we return to Colorado.

I'm sorry to be leaving Antarctica...so much to see, so little time. Thank you for being our eyes and ears...and our taste buds...on this delightful journey. We'll check that your driveway is clear for your arrival tomorrow. Will be glad to see you for 'the rest of the story'.
Post a Comment! What a delightful farewell they had planned for you. I want to know who got close enough to the Albatross to see if they had Brown or Black Brows (tee hee). Y'all have seen and done things that most people won't ever get the opportunity to do. So delighted you have once again, taken me on this trip with you and for the pics you have posted. Enjoy your trip home and sleep well tonight.
