Day 01 – Monday, October 11, 2010 – Trip to Southern Colorado’s Highway of Legends – PART 3

We stopped at tiny Cokedale, the coal company town where coal was baked in long rows of huge ovens. The intense heat baked out the moisture, impurities, and made the high grade coal some of the best mined in all of the west.

Ending our scenic byways tour at 3:30, we arrived in Trinidad, and back into the modern world. Gennie spotted a road side chili roaster and garden stand that she could not resist.

While Gennie bought two chili ristas, I took photos of the roaster and the fresh produce. We were back on the I-25 interstate at 3:36 and on our way back to Monument Hill.

After a short stop for gas at Costco we arrived home about 6 PM after a beautiful day in Colorado. We had traveled 363.5 miles and had taken over 300 photos of our colorful state!
