DAY 1 - November 27, 2003 - Monument, CO to Narita, Japan
Our long day started at 5 AM when Gennie awoke me to tell me that it had snowed overnight and we had to think about clearing the driveway before leaving. Together, we went out and in 20 minutes had cleaned it up.
She went in to shower, I had a brief breakfast, fruit and coffee and then showered. We were out the door at 5:50 on our way to pick up Jim and Mickey Shumaker. Before we got the Gleneagle we got some gas and were at their house by 6:15.
We drove north on I-25 and due to snow, the windshield got covered with the magnesium chloride they are putting down on the road. Just our luck, I had washed the car yesterday and the windshield washer would not spray.
We stopped in Castle Rock, cleaned the window and then left. Just as we got back on the interstate, the car in front threw a rock and cracked the windshield. In less than 2 years, this will be our third replacement. When we got to Denver, I once again stopped and cleaned the windshield.
At DIA, I took the Shumakers and Gennie to the United gate and let them off with the luggage and then took the car to Mt. Elbert parking facility. The Pikes Peak lot was filled to capacity. It took longer to pay the $5 for 19 days than the drive to the lot - the young lady could not figure
out the charge.
In 20 minutes I was back at the terminal and found Gennie at the front of the line. We checked in - 51 and 53 pounds for each of our bags. We then went through security - 10 minutes and we took the train to Terminal B.
We waited about 35 minutes, got on our plane to Seattle and we were off on time. The flight was full - every seat taken. We had a screeching child directly behind us and the mother would not do anything about it.
She, in fact, tapped the back of Gennie's seat to try to amuse the child - did not please even the ever-patient Gennie. This was a flight of a little over 2:30 hours.
When we arrived in Seattle, there was a high overcast so one could see Mercer Island, West Seattle and farther to the west, the Olympic Peaks. To the southeast Mount Rainier was very evident. We had a very short layover, 45 minutes, and we loaded the large Boeing 777 and we were on our way.
This leg was to be almost 11 hours long. But we were in economy plus so we had the extra leg room and the service was great. Two meals, drinks, and a snack in the middle.
They showed several movies of which I saw Alex and Emma - cute! The other two I started to watch were not worth it and I went back to reading and finishing The Hearing. It was an uneventful flight, with people being considerate of others.
