Costa Rica: N P & T F

Day 12 - Monday, December 24, 2012 - San Gerardo de Dota; Woodworking Demonstration; Overland to San José; City Tour

The luggage had to be out at 6:45 am so that Samy had time to load the bags on top of the bus for the last time on this trip. After breakfast, we got on the bus reluctantly; sad to leave this beautiful paradise behind.

We began the 2,500 foot climb out of this valley and back to the highway that would take us back to the capital of Costa Rica, San José. We made a brief stop at Cartago, a city that was once the capital of Costa Rica.

When we returned to the outskirts of San José, we were treated to a tour of a woodworking factory, Sr & Sra Ese Souvenirs. Our guide Lupe took us through the woodworking shops, but because it was Christmas Eve Day, all of the 150 employees were at home with their families.

Lupe explained the processes of grading the wood, polishing, and drilling of the holes for the various projects. We had a light lunch at their cafeteria, and then we were able to do some last minute shopping in the company outlet store.

Eddie gave us our flight pick-up times and told us about the schedule for the remainder of the day. Traffic was heavy as we went to our hotel in the city.

Most of the Ticos were going home early to spend Christmas Eve with family and friends. We picked up the luggage we had stored at the lobby and collected the laundry we left to be washed when we left ten days ago.

We had the afternoon to organize our bags for the trip home and start on the journal before we joined our group for the Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant.

Our pick-up time from the hotel to the airport is at 5:00 am as our flight leaves from San José to Atlanta at 8:00. We will post the final flight day of our Costa Rican Adventure when we arrive home on Christmas Day.
