Day 09 - Tuesday, December 20, 2011 - Fernando de Noronha, Pernambuco, BR

We woke up at 6:30, had breakfast and then got ready for the boat ride to see more dolphins and hopefully a turtle or two. The tour was to come for us at 8:00.

Just as I went out to get a temperature reading, the skies opened up and it rained for about an hour. The skies lightened and a man from the tour company came to ask us if we wanted to go this afternoon.

We declined as we have learned it is in the morning when it is not so hot that is the best time to go out. Gennie read and I walked around to photograph flowers.

At 1:30 we walked to the village center and then to check out a few places for lunch. The main meal is served at noon. Many of the main restaurants we crowded so we decided to a walk all the way to the Bar do Cachorro where we had eaten yesterday.

The food was just as good and very few people were eating at that hour. The skies alternated from threatening to blue.

The temperature is moderated by the ocean currents and sea breezes. Today it was 85° and 84% because of this morning’s rain, establishing the Heat Stress of 105°.

Every day the weather is similar, but as we are very close to the equator (4° south), the length of days and nights is about the same.

On our way home we stopped to buy water and a few post cards. I asked about internet and cell phone service. Several people told me the whole system was offline throughout the islands. It did not seem to bother them at all.

We are almost getting used to this laid-back island life. I was able to sort photos and Gennie summarized our day. We have an early hike tomorrow morning leaving at 6:20 so we will get a good night’s sleep.

Accommodations: Pousada Lenda das Águas --- Meal: B
