Day 1 – Saturday, December 03, 2011 – Depart Denver, CO; Transfer in Atlanta, GA; Flight to Santiago, Chile
The snow began at midnight and by the time we woke up at 5:30 to check the weather we had horizontal snow and at least six inches of the white stuff on the ground already. We went out as soon as it was light to plow and shovel and by 7:45 we had made a path to the road.
By the time we got ready and gave Buddha a hug, we were able to leave the house at 8:30, plenty of time to get to DIA. Our neighborhood had not been plowed but we made it to the interstate fine, that little CRV really drives well in the snow!
The big state plows were out and four abreast clearing the blowing snow as we headed north on I-25. Traffic was heavy but we only saw a few accidents. Most drivers were careful but we were cautious as the visibility was limited and many drivers did not have their lights on. I guess they did not take Master Drive.
When we got to the Pikes Peak Long Term parking, the driver was so helpful. He saw us park and then waited for us so we did not have to be out in the wind and 19 degree temperatures too long.
The gate agent checked our bags al the way to Montevideo and made sure we had proper documentation for our trip to South America, Uruguay and Brazil. Security was very light and we went right to Concourse C.
When we got off of the train, we decided to recheck our departure gate – just in case. Our flight had been delayed from 1:23 to 4:05. We knew we would miss all of our connecting flights so we went right to the nearest gate with a Delta agent and she worked for over 90 minutes to get us rescheduled to Montevideo.
Many flights were delayed but we found a Delta flight at 2:30 that would get us to Atlanta in time to connect with an overnight flight to Santiago, Chile and then booked a LAN flight to Montevideo.
With any luck at all, our bags will make the same changes and meet us in Montevideo along with Bob and Susan Dersé.
We were able to get business seats, but not together. Once again, Gennie’s meticulous planning for seat assignments goes out the window. Oh well, as our son Eduardo told her “There is nothing you can do about the weather and unless you buy your own plane you have to put up with these challenges!” and of course he is right!
The Delta flight to Atlanta was very smooth. We rode the train from Concourse C to E and found E30 easily. Just as we walked up to the gate they called our flight and we were able to board.
The eight and a half hour flight on a brand new Boeing 767-400 went quickly as we were able to sleep a bit. We went from a winter blizzard in Colorado and woke up to summer in South America.
Austin pictures are from our visit to our son last week.
I'm happy to find out that this is NOT day 11 but day 1, so we didn't miss the first ten days. With all the traveling you do it might be cheaper to buy your own plane as Eduardo suggested. Have a great trip. We are looking forward to reading about it.
Post a Comment!Esperamos que tudo continue dando muito certo, até sua chegada!!!!
Day 13 - Saturday, April 22, 2022 - Depart for U.S.
The hotel prepared a box breakfast for us as we had to be in the lobby way before the breakfast room was open.
Last night we found out that our departure flight back to...
