Exploring Australia&NZ

Day 1 – Saturday, April 16, 2011 – Depart Denver, CO to Los Angeles, CA

Odysseys Unlimited

Our “Down Under” adventure with Odyssey Unlimited began with our trip to Denver International Airport. Because we have a late evening flight, we were able to have a relaxing day and get many last minute things done before leaving for the airport at 3:30.

Gennie made sure our friend Tim had fresh vanilla ice cream and she made him chocolate chip cookies. It is my responsibility to make sure he has plenty of adult beverages while he takes care of the house and the cats.

There was hardly any traffic to DIA and we found a place to park right away. We waited a few minutes for the shuttle and then went right to the American Check in Desk.

The Gate Agent checked our bags all the way to Cairns, Australia and we were both under the weight limit. We have plenty of space to bring back a kangaroo or koala!

Security was light and for the first time we went through the Full Body Scanners or as our Cousin Bob Dersé calls them the ICUNaked machines. The process was very fast and seemed harmless.

We had plenty of time at Gate 49 in the A Concourse. The smell of Panda Express called to us for a light snack as we would not get a meal on the flight to Los Angeles.

The flight was on time and not very crowded so the first leg of our journey went very smoothly.

When we landed at LAX, we found our connecting gate easily and met our friends and travel companions Jim & Mary Ann Carlson. We met Jim & Mary Ann several years ago on our second trip to China.

Great travelers; we have visited them in their home in Prescott, AZ and they have been to our home in Monument. We look forward to traveling with them again on this Australia and New Zealand Adventure.

While we waited to board our Qantas flight to Brisbane, we met several other of our Odyssey Unlimited group. We exchanged names and will try to link names and faces as we begin our three weeks of travel to together.

EAG is our son Eduardo.
