Day 03 - Thursday, July 30, 2009 - Family - São Paulo, Brasil
Even though the time difference between Colorado and Sao Paulo is three hours, we woke up at 7:00 as usual. We had breakfast with coffee, the warm Brazilian bread that I love, and fresh bananas and tangerines.
I went out to get a weather reading and found that it was 57º and 100% humidity. I had never seen this reading before, even in a pouring rain storm. Renata laughed that it said 100% only because the meter did not read 110%!
Yes, it is winter in South America; cool and humid. This has been the wettest July on record – and the inside walls of Tia’s home are damp with the humidity.
While Tia and Renata had a business meeting, Gennie and I read and got ready for our day. By 9:00, our cousin Bob from Seattle arrived having had to purchase an airline ticket and then fly TAM to get to Sao Paulo. Like us, he took a taxi from the airport to join us for our trip together to the Pantanal.
Although we were thrilled to see Bob, we were sorry that Susan was not able to come for such a short time. Because of the mix-up in his flight schedule, Bob’s luggage will not arrive until tomorrow afternoon – we hope!
Today was hair cut day! Renata, Thomas, Gennie, and I all went to the Aldeia Barber/Beauty salon at 9:30 to get trimmed. By the time we left, we had all been transformed and felt much better!
Back at Tia’s home, we showered, found some clothes for Bob, and then left at noon for lunch at Oswaldo’s new restaurant, Triazz, in Alphaville. The café is primarily for the lunch business; where he treated us to a wonderful buffet.
After lunch we walked around Alphaville and then went to the supermarket with Renata. Bob, Luciana, and I wandered the store to see the various wares and Gennie and Renata made a mad dash for the produce and groceries.
Returning to the Aldeia at dark; the fog was thick. We all gathered at Victor’s home and met his wife Deise. We enjoyed a typical afternoon coffee, Cafezinho.
Isa, Renata, & Lia went to a birthday party in Sao Paulo for a friend of our late Tio Ruben. Victor, Deise, Dominic, Bob, Gennie and I with all 5 of the little cousins all went out for Brazilian Pizza.
When we returned to the house, we finished the journal and then went to bed. The daylight days are short here, but we seem to pack so much into each one; we were happy to get some rest.
Day 13 - Saturday, April 22, 2022 - Depart for U.S.
The hotel prepared a box breakfast for us as we had to be in the lobby way before the breakfast room was open.
Last night we found out that our departure flight back to...
