OAT Day 1-02 - Monday, April 7, 2008 - Flight from Narita, Japan to Shanghai, China

We arrived in Narita, Japan a bit late and went right to the World Club Lounge to freshen up after our 12+ hour flight from Los Angeles.

We were able to check our e-mail accounts and I posted the 1st day’s journal. The desk clerk called our flight so we hustled down to Gate 15, not far from the Lounge.

When we got to the gate, we were informed that the flight was delayed due to mechanical problems. Our 6:20 PM flight was now boarding at 6:40PM!

Narita International Airport is very clean and well laid out with our incoming gate, the Lounge and our departure gate all within very short walking distance.

We were able to board about 6:35 and then sat in the cool comfort of our business section where we were offered juice or champagne. I opted for the adult beverage! At least the air-conditioning did not seem to be the problem.

We waited until the maintenance crew finished up the paperwork and we left the jet way at 7:05 but the traffic was backed up and it was 8:05 when we actually left the ground.

Our 3 hour flight to Shanghai was uneventful, a good thing… and we arrived at the brand new section of the Pudong Airport in Shanghai that was just opened last week. We passed though immigration easily as our flight was the only one coming in at 10:30 PM.

We waited for our luggage - although it was marked priority, all of the LAX bags came out at the end, but once again we were lucky to see them all! We walked right through customs with a nod and smile.

Our Trip Leader, Matt, also our guide for the Shanghai portion of the pre-trip, met us at the arrival gate. We also met Jeanette from Michigan and Don from Ohio who were on the last leg of the journey. We took a mini van to transfer to the hotel, where we will spend the next four nights. As it is almost 1 AM, it is time for bed.

Accommodations: Park Hotel - - - Meal: B, L, D
