Day 3 - April 19, 2003 - Pauma Valley, CA to Escondido, CA
We woke up at 6:45, showered, organized our things to be ready to leave for the day. We knew that Tom and Sue were going to be with their friends for Easter. We looked out the window and we could see all the mountains and vegetation that surround them. The sky was clear and blue and the temperature was in the cool 60s.
We had a cup of coffee and tea, sat in the living room and we caught up again with our travel plans and talked about what we would do for the rest of the morning.
We took a long walk around their neighborhood seeing the golf course and the beautiful homes. I took pictures of plants, trees, and surrounding hills with orange and avocado groves. Tom and Sue have a lemon tree right outside their kitchen window and this gives them fresh lemons year around.
We toured their 25 acre ranch seeing Tom’s special car, the Sparks. Our walk was about three miles and we saw homes that have been there since the original development of the community in the 1960s. Other homes are brand new and quite beautiful.
All the homes are lavishly landscaped and well taken care of. All have very colorful gardens with an immense variety of flowers - all in full bloom for the springtime.
We got back to Tom and Sue’s house after our walk and Tom got out the hose, bucket, and soap so I could wash the dirt and butterflies off the windshield and front end. Gennie helped to dry the car as the water is hard with calcium. I felt a lot better with the car looking a bit more presentable.
We sat in their gazebo and enjoyed an ice-cream bar while we looked at map to plan our trip through from Pauma Valley, to San Diego and the Mexican border. Sue copied a portion of the map, brought it out and she and Gennie got together to go over the details.
While they were doing this, I packed the car and then we decided that it was such a great day that we would put the top down. We moved the car to the side of the drive, and got our cameras ready to take some group photos. These turned out well with the mountains in the background and us by the S2000.
We said our goodbyes to Sue and Tom at 11:30 so they would have time to get ready for their weekend trip. We drove south to I-15 and Escondido where we found a Quality Inn and decided to spend the night there. We communicated with Jason and Kristin, one of my former soccer players and discussed meeting for dinner.
In the meantime, we watched the Colorado AVS lose to the Minnesota Wild 3-2 in the 5th game. I took the time to get caught up with the logs and pictures and to write some much needed emails.
Day 13 - Saturday, April 22, 2022 - Depart for U.S.
The hotel prepared a box breakfast for us as we had to be in the lobby way before the breakfast room was open.
Last night we found out that our departure flight back to...
