Destination Delhi

Day 02 (1-2) - Tuesday, October 29, 2019 - Flight from Munich, Germany to Delhi, India

Our two-hour layover in Munich went quickly and after posting the journal and checking our mail, we walked a short distance to Gate L13. We were required to have our Indian visas approved and then we were given permission to board the Lufthansa aircraft.

The flight crew welcomed us and again offered us a cool drink. As we waited for the rest of the passengers to board we settled in and did a little writing for Day 2 and the continuation of the flight to New Delhi, India.

The weather in Munich was overcast with a light drizzle so we were not able to see the colorful fall foliage typical of later October in Germany. The pilot explained that the 6 hour and 30 minute flight would be crossing over the Black Sea, the Turkish coastline, the Caspian Sea, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and then on to Delhi.

He also told us that there were backups on the runways and there would be a slight delay as we waited for our turn to take off. At 12:30 PM the jet way was pulled back and we taxied to the runway. As soon as we could, we reclined our seats for a few more hours of rest.

Our midnight landing in New Delhi was smooth but we waited over an hour to get through immigration. The lines were long as two flights came in at the same time and the service was very slow.

The next step was getting our bags, but because we had waited so long in immigration, they were out quickly. Going through customs was easy, as we had nothing to declare.

Our OAT representative was in the main lobby waiting for us and then we waited another 30 minutes for two more OAT travelers to join us.

Traffic in New Delhi is normally a nightmare, but at this time of night it was reasonable. We checked into our room at 2:30 AM and organized our belongs for the next few days. With almost 18 hours of flight time and a time difference of 11.5 hours, we tried to reset our biological clocks.

On Wednesday we will meet our tour director, BalBir Singhb, along with the rest of our Overseas Adventure Travelers and begin our re-acquaintance with the busy and vibrant New Delhi and the old city of Delhi.
