Personal Evaluation of Overseas Adventure Travel -- Post-Trip: Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Flying out of Nairobi we flew to Johannesburg, South Africa and spent the night. We had the opportunity to take an optional to Soweto and see the World Cup sights. Our tour guide did a very good job of showing us the sights, the Monument to Hector Pieterson, Regina Mundi, the church involved in Bishop Tutu's work and many others - really worth the optional tour.
The Avant Garde Lodge was excellent and the proprietor went out of his way to help us. All meals were cooked to what we desired. NICE!
Our flights were excellent and when we arrived in Victoria Falls we were very fortunate to have an excellent Tour Director in Reason Ndloyu. One could see that he loves his country and wants to make it available to the traveler. He took care of us!
He went out of his way to show us everything he could in Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Zambia. He did many things for us that were not on the OAT schedule. He even took us to his home where we met his wife and two children.
THANK YOU REASON!
The Ilala Lodge felt like 5 Star but was in fact 4. Our room was spacious, well ventilated, A/C that worked and so many amenities. All meals were provided and were cooked to our desires. Fantastic.
Everyone in the hotel went out of their way to help us, provide us with what we wanted and made great suggestions. Free clothes washing and fast internet were provided.
The only "negative" was the 41 hours of flights and layovers we had to face from Victoria Falls, to Johannesburg, to Amsterdam, to Minneapolis and then on to Denver.
