Black Hills & Wyoming - Day 2
Map Instructions
Our maps now have more custom features! As we are carrying a GPS unit with us, everyone can now follow our trip's adventures in more precise
detail. For example, the tear-shaped icons are particular "waypoints" during the day; click on them to see where we
were and the exact time we were there. The new maps also allow you to zoom in to see specifically where walked, drove, flew, etc. for that day.
Zoom in as tight as possible to see where we wandered and explored the areas, or zoom out to see a travel overview of our daily adventure.

Our Guest Author for today is Maria Poulsen, age 12 from Frederikssund, Denmark.
When we left the hotel at 8:43 it was 73 degrees. We were on the way to Mount Rushmore. At 9:22 we arrived to Mount Rushmore.
We followed a park ranger who told us about the monument and the four presidents. We walked around the place on our own and took a lot of photos. After that we got a big ice cream from Jesper.
At 12:41 we left Mount Rushmore and headed for Jewel Cave National Monument 30 miles away. When we got there the cave was closed because the elevator was broken and there was no electricity so we decided to take a scenic tour through Custer State Park.
In the park we saw white-tailed deer with their babies. We also saw pronghorns and a lot of burros. The burros almost came into the car to see if we had something to eat. We did not see any buffaloes.
We did also drive to several overviews and again we took a lot of photos and we drove through 3 narrow tunnels. We came back at the hotel at 5:30 and went out for dinner at 6:00.
We had dinner at the local Arnold’s Diner. Most of us had burgers, fries and shakes.

No buffalo? Steph and I slept on the side of the road in Custer State Park years ago and woke to a herd of buffalo. Beautiful area.
