Victoria Falls, ZW - Day 7
Our maps now have more custom features! As we are carrying a GPS unit with us, everyone can now follow our trip's adventures in more precise
detail. For example, the tear-shaped icons are particular "waypoints" during the day; click on them to see where we
were and the exact time we were there. The new maps also allow you to zoom in to see specifically where walked, drove, flew, etc. for that day.
Zoom in as tight as possible to see where we wandered and explored the areas, or zoom out to see a travel overview of our daily adventure.

Out of Africa! What a bitter/sweet day as we leave for home today and we say goodbye to Africa. After almost 26 days away, we are looking forward to being back in Colorado, but we will always hold our memories of this continent and the six countries we have visited close to our hearts!
Reason had arranged for us to meet for breakfast at 8:30. We had lots of time to finish packing.
As soon as we finished breakfast we walked two blocks to the Victoria Falls Hotel, the oldest and most exclusive hotel in the city and one of the most prestigious in Africa.
Duly, our guide gave us a tour of the facilities pointing out old photos of royalty who had visited in the glorious colonial days of Rhodesia.
We walked through the manicured gardens and down to the over-look where we had a fantastic view of Victoria Falls and the old train bridge that used to bring visitors to the Victoria Falls Hotel.
When we returned to our hotel we took a quick shower and put on light travel clothes for our flight to Johannesburg. The porters took our bags to the lobby and we met Reason once again for our 11:00 trip to the airport.
The driver took a short detour and showed us more of the city; the hospital and a nursing home along with more housing areas. When we got to the airport, the departure area was already packed with the Japanese group we met on our arrival.
Reason helped us to get past their confusion and we went through reasonably quickly. The desk agent had to do all of the baggage tags and the boarding passes by hand because they do not have a computerized system in this tiny airport.
The tricky part was that the baggage tags only had three spaces for connecting flights and we have four, so we will have to recheck our bags in Minneapolis. We go through US customs there anyway so it should not be a problem.
Our 1 hour and 45 minute flight went smoothly and in no time at all we landed in Johannesburg. OAT had arranged for us to spend our 8 hour layover in the Premier Business Lounge.
We were able to use the computers, go out to do a little last minute shopping, and freshen up for our flight to Amsterdam. We had to get our connecting flight boarding passes as they could not do that for us in Victoria Falls.
